Obtain Permanent Residence with the Points System

If you are a professional and want to obtain Permanent Residence in Australia, the Points System is the most recommended to achieve your goal in Australia. Learn how this system works and calculate your points.

⚠️  IMPORTANT: The information that we will present to you now IS OF A GENERAL CHARACTER and is based on the list of trades in demand as of the date of publication. Federal and state governments frequently review the trades that their respective economies need and based on this they introduce, change, and remove trades from their lists. This can happen at ANY time and without prior announcement.

Why is it so difficult to permanently migrate to Australia?

Australia has an excellent standard of living, a high wage and educational level, full confidence in its private and governmental institutions, an extensive social security system, an extraordinary health system, and immense freedom of political and personal expression.

Australia only has around 25 million inhabitants, but tens of millions of people around the world dream of studying, working, and living in Australia. The problem: Australia knows!

That is why Australia is jealous and seeks to take care of its high standards:

1) By carefully selecting people who have professional skills in in-demand trades so as not to saturate the economy with unsolicited labor.

2) Promoting family reunion between foreigners and their immediate relatives who are either permanent residents or citizens (parents, children, and partners).

3) Promoting the growth of the economy by inviting investors with high capitals to
bring your money to buy real estate or create businesses that create jobs.

4) Contributing to the international community by providing refuge and asylum to those who flee their countries due to persecution due to their religion, gender, sexuality or political affiliation.

Pathways to Australian Permanent Residence

1) Points system (for jobs on THE LIST)
2) Labor sponsorship (for trades on THE LIST)
3) Relationship with Australian or resident partner
4) Family reunion between parents and children
5) Global Talent (Masters or Ph.D. in STEM and ability to earn a salary of $ 145,000 AUD)
6) Refugees or political asylees
7) Investment (starts from $ 250,000 AUD)

What is the purpose of the “List of Trades”?

The system of points and labor sponsorship seeks to ‘filter’ people with academic training and experience in jobs in demand, which are placed on the famous ‘list’. This is reviewed periodically to ensure that the economy only receives needed labor. If the government identifies a job saturation, it removes it from the list to prevent increases in the Australian unemployment rate.

Trades under the title ‘Medium to Long Term’ are in HIGH demand and can obtain residency anywhere in Australia. They usually require a LOT of POINTS before qualifying.

Trades under the title ‘Short Term’ are in LOW demand and can only obtain residency through the invitation of a state such as Tasmania or South Australia, or through a sponsor in rural area. Trades under the title ‘Regional’ are in RURAL demand and can only obtain residence in rural areas.

Point Visas

VISA 189 (FEDERAL)

It is the ‘gold standard’ because it gives you permanent residence and allows you to live anywhere in Australia. They call it ‘the independent’ because you do not depend on the support of any state to obtain it. This visa is only for trades in high demand. In June 2020 you needed 65 points to get an invitation. Obtaining it is very difficult.

VISA 190 (STATE)

It is the ‘silver standard’ because although this visa is permanent residence, it forces you to live in the state that invited you for 2 years.
To apply for this visa you need a state to support you and before giving you the support the state will require you to live there for a time. High or low demand trades can apply to this visa. You need at least 60 points from you to apply.

VISA 491 (REGIONAL)

It is the ‘bronze standard’ because this visa is not permanent residence but can end in it after you live and work for 3 years outside of Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney.

To apply for this visa you need a rural area to support you and before providing support, the rural area will require you to live there for a while. You need at least 50 points from you.

We recommend Gamba Migration 100%. After many, many migration consultations with other agents who assured us our case was too complex and impossible for a skilled visa, I found Jorge's videos on Youtube, and we had a consultation with Jorge. Jorge listened to our personal case, he advised us, and took on our application knowing we were not presenting a standard application, but willing to learn from the experience and obtain a successful outcome. Jorge received our calls on more than one occasion, he met us in person for over 2 hours, and assigned Juana and Andrea as our case officers (who were always very thorough with our documentation ensuring not a detail was missing). Thank you Gamba Migration for making our pathway in Australia possible!! We are grateful for your fantastic work and for being an outstanding agency that makes a difference.
